What It Does
Calculates the tip amount, total bill, and per-person share when splitting — in any of 46 supported currencies. Shows a side-by-side comparison at common tip rates (10%, 15%, 18%, 20%, 25%) so you can quickly pick the right amount. Optionally rounds up each person’s share for easy splitting. Export your results to CSV or Excel for record-keeping.
How to Use It

- Select your currency from the dropdown (defaults to USD).
- Choose a tip percentage — use the quick-select buttons or type a custom value.
- Set the number of people splitting the bill (default is 1 for no split).
- Toggle “Round Up” if you want each person’s share rounded to the nearest whole currency unit.
- Click “Calculate” to see results, or “Clear” to reset.
- Use “Copy Results”, “Export CSV”, or “Export Excel” to save or share the breakdown.
Options Explained
| Option | Description |
|---|---|

| Export CSV | Downloads a .csv file with the summary and comparison table — ideal for spreadsheets or data analysis |
| Export Excel | Downloads an .xlsx file with the same data formatted for Microsoft Excel or compatible applications |
About Tipping
Tipping customs vary around the world. In the United States and Canada, 15–20% is standard for sit-down restaurant service. In many European countries, service is included in the bill, though a small extra tip (5–10%) is appreciated. In Japan and South Korea, tipping is generally not expected and can even be considered impolite.
When splitting a bill, rounding up each person’s share makes it easier to settle with cash. The “effective tip” percentage shows the actual tip rate after any rounding adjustments.
Common Use Cases
- Calculating restaurant tips for different service levels
- Splitting bills evenly among a group of diners
- Adjusting tip percentages for takeout vs. dine-in
- Rounding up totals for easier cash payments
- Comparing tipping customs when traveling internationally
- Quickly estimating gratuity for delivery or salon services
What Is a Tip Calculator?
A tip calculator determines the gratuity amount based on the bill total and a chosen tip percentage, then optionally splits the result among multiple people. Tipping norms vary significantly by country and service type: in the US, 15–20% is standard for table service, while many European countries include service in the price. When splitting a bill, rounding each share up to the nearest dollar simplifies payment but changes the effective tip percentage. A good tip calculator shows both the per-person amount and the true effective rate so everyone pays fairly without awkward math at the table.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much should I tip at a restaurant?
In the US and Canada, 15–20% of the pre-tax bill is standard for sit-down dining. For exceptional service, 20–25% is common. For takeout, 10–15% is appreciated but not always expected.
Should I tip on the pre-tax or post-tax amount?
Etiquette guides generally recommend tipping on the pre-tax subtotal. However, tipping on the total (including tax) is also common and results in only a small difference.
How do I split a bill fairly?
Divide the total (including tip) by the number of people. If individual orders vary significantly, splitting proportionally based on what each person ordered is fairer. Rounding up each share makes cash payments easier.
